Signs of Spring to Look Out For
Blossoming Flowers – Look out for daffodils, bluebells, and cherry blossoms adding bursts of colour to parks and gardens. Encourage your little one to name the colours they see!
Insects and Butterflies – Warmer weather brings out ladybirds, bumblebees, and butterflies. Can your child spot any of these?
Birdsong and Nesting Birds – Spring is a busy time for birds as they build nests and care for their young. Keep an eye out for robins, blue tits, and blackbirds, and listen carefully for their cheerful songs.
Baby Animals – If you're near a farm or green space, you might see lambs, ducklings, or even baby rabbits! Chat with your child about how these animals grow and change.
New Leaves and Budding Trees – Point out trees that are starting to sprout bright green leaves. Talk about how trees ‘wake up’ in spring after their winter sleep.
Puddles and Raindrops – Spring can be rainy, but that just adds to the fun! Put on wellies and jump in puddles or look at raindrops on leaves and spiderwebs.

Where to Go for a Spring Nature Walk
If you're looking for great places to explore nature with your child, here are some local gems in South London and Surrey:
Morden Hall Park (Morden) – A National Trust Park with winding river paths, beautiful gardens, and plenty of wildlife.
Richmond Park (Richmond) – Spot deer, explore wooded areas, and enjoy wide open spaces perfect for running and playing.
Crystal Palace Park (Crystal Palace) – Look for signs of spring around the lakes, gardens, and even the famous dinosaurs!
Wandle Trail (Croydon to Wandsworth) – A scenic riverside walk where children can spot ducks, listen to birds, and collect natural treasures.
Banstead Woods (Surrey) – A great spot for bluebells in late spring and a fun woodland adventure for little ones.
